Winners in the Uranium Frenzy
In history there have been many people to win the jackpot, whether it was from methodical planning or if they just so happened to be the lucky guy who put their last quarter in the machine. The uranium frenzy can be thought of in the same manner. In the 20th century everyone was packing their bags and moving to southeast Utah to stake their claim to try and play their lucky ticket. Some people were luckier than others such as Charlie Steen, others just seemed to have a knack for making money like Floyd Odlum and some just fell in between for instance Vernon Pick. These three men were defiantly some of the most notable winners in the gamble of the uranium boom.

However, it did pay off for him. That is why he has to be seen as the luckiest man in the Uranium boom. Not everyone in the Uranium boom made their fortune by going out and mining. Some made it by playing the stock market. Which is just what Floyd Odlum did. Unlike most people in the boom, Floyd actually had a niche for making money before he made his millions. He was able to start the Atlas Corporation. With the corporation’s capital he was going to be able to invest into the Utah mining rush but, the company’s board of directors weren’t as convinced as Floyd.
Because of their lack of faith that this was going to be a good investment, Mr. Odlum had to travel to Utah. He made his way to the Colorado Plateau to investigate some of the current mines. As word got out what he was doing, he started having large amounts of people waiting for him in rooms throughout his house. In almost no time at all he had help shares of Uranium rise to almost two dollars a share. Afterwards, Floyd even made a claim of his own. Because of his fortune he was able to buy up as many mining companies that he had to make another corporation, the Federal Uranium of Nevada Corporation.
