1984 chronicles the life of Winston Smith, a member of the Outer Party who despises the totalitarian control of Big Brother and the Party. An editor by profession, Winston rewrites records to conform to the state’s ever-changing history and becomes infatuated by the desire to find out about the true past. Winston moves into a room above an antique shop with his partner, Julia in which they both read the opposition’s book about the fundamental beginning of the Party. Winston and Julia are caught by the thought police for rebellion and tortured until they conformed to Big Brother’s values and ethics. The Party will do anything to keep themselves in power even if it means degrading their subjects until the point that they are mindless workers who do as they command. These people will no longer have a recollection of their past, present or future and their only will, will be to serve the Party. People will no longer have romantic relations as they are only needed for breeding purposes, and the children will be taken and housed in facilities where they are to be trained to serve the Party. People will become slaves that answer to the Party’s calls as they no longer have individuality and George Orwell represented this idea through this quote which shows a very discrete image of the future. He showcased that everything that these people believed in will be proven wrong until the point they can no longer distinguish between what is right and wrong.
