The winter of 1692 in January, at salem massachusett in the bay colony, the salem witch trials began, they lasted to about may of 1693. This was one of the darkest times in America 's history. The witch trials were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people that were accused of being a witch or practicing the devil 's magic. There was a very strong belief in supernatural practicing and the practice of devil 's magic or witchcraft in salem that caused the trails to begin. The practicing of devils magic was the belief of giving a women also know as witches the ability to hurt other men, women and, children. There was a total of two hundred men, and women that were accused of witchcraft. The first women was Bridget Bishop she was also the first women to be hung witch was on June tenth. On the date of july 19 there were five more people that were hung which was Sarah Good, Rebecca Nurse, Susannah Martin, Sarah Wildes, and Elizabeth Howe. George Jacobs, John Willard, Martha carrier, George Burroughs, and John Proctor were another five people that were hung on August 14. On september 22 Samuel Wardwell, Martha Corey, Margaret Scott, Alice Parker, Mary Parker, wilmott Redd, and Mary Eastey were eight more people that were also hung. The first man that was accused for being a wizard was Giles Corey he was pressed to death on september 19. He was buried alive underneath rocks, people would then come along and drill them into his skin. Sarah Osborn, Lyndia Dustin, Anne Foster, and Roger Toothaker they were all accused as well, but they died in prison. Every person that was accused and hung during the times of the salem witch trial was hung at Gallows Hill. Which was just south of salem
