Not long after Louie had competed in the games he had continued on his path to success to join the U.S. Air Forces in 1940, right around when World War II had begun. When Louie and his fellow crew members were flying over the Pacific Ocean in their B-24D Army Air Forces bomber one day in May of 1943, they had crashed into the ocean due to two engine failures. In “How to Handle a Bully,” by Kathiann Kowalski, an experienced journalist, Kowalski reports the different strategies to stop bullying. She informs that bullying is at its peak in the late teenage years, but can start in an early age. Kowalski concurs that girls intimidates as much as boys; however, they do it differently. She explores many reasons why bullying occurs at the first place, and who starts bullying. Kowalski exemplifies the situations that victims could be in, and the solution on how to handle the bully.
The Era of Not So Good Feelings Many historians label the period after the War of 1812 as the “Era of Good Feelings” but it certainly did not seem that way towards many others. This so called “Era of Good Feelings” dealt with the extension of slavery and the differing views on that subject between the North and the South, the American System that helped the United States industrialize and expand but led the country from nationalism to new sectionalism views; thus causing tensions to rise. Slavery had been protracted since the 1600s and with the extension of slavery and many differing views from both the Northerners and Southerners, it became a huge issue. Northerners opposed the extension of slavery because of the 3/5 Compromise which provided unfair representation to slave states compared to the northern states.
Louie Zamperini went through more pain and suffering than most people will ever endure in their entire life. In the book Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Louis Zamperini was an Olympic runner. He was drafted during World War II . During the war, his plane crashed in the middle of the ocean and he was stranded with little resources to survive. This book follows his incredible story battling starvation and abuse in Prisoner of War camps (POW).
Poetry is an effective means used to convey a variety of emotions, from grief, to love, to empathy. This form of text relies heavily on imagery and comparison to inflict the reader with the associated feelings. As such, is displayed within Stephen Dunn 's, aptly named poem, Empathy. Quite ironically, Dunn implores strong diction to string along his cohesive plot of a man seeing the world in an emphatic light. Jamison’s own self-awareness and presence in each of the essays provides the common thread the collection needs to keep it from becoming overwhelming or directionless. “Part of me has always craved a pain so visible,” she writes in the first essay, “that everyone would have to know.” Jamison’s frustrations with and struggle to find the balance between doing the right thing by empathizing and her own self-pity or questions about her obligations to others made this collection ring true..
Daywalt took an item that children use on a daily basis and created a conflict that they would understand. The theme, as previously discussed, is successful in teaching a lesson without stating it obviously. This makes the book perfect for read alouds in classrooms from which teachers can create extensive lesson plans for an elementary class. Middle school teachers may also use this story because of the mature nature of its theme in a fun and humorous way. Both adults and children would be attracted to this story as a buyer.
This system may either be good or bad depending on the nature of society. If the society is good the system will aim to promote good moral values; if the society is bad the system will promote unethical practices. To many educators and parents, it’s common sense: children who have strong social and emotional skills perform better in school, have more positive relationships with peers and adults, and have more positive emotional adjustment and mental health. Because children spend a significant portion of their time in schools, schools are a major context for social and emotional development, growing along with and connected to academics. Conclusion Eliminating or minimizing bullying at Lakewood Elementary and placing the focus point on a more conclusive objective such as the point system will enrich these children with a sense of responsibility and amour-propae when it comes to behavior in school.
It is important for people to understand bullying and know that it is a bad thing and we should try to stop the furthering of it. People around the world need to stop bullying they need to teach their children that it is unacceptable to act that way and that was what the author of “For the Birds” is trying to teach

Children literature is important for youth to understand diversity and cultural differences. Diversity is often a difficult topic for young children to grasp due to most of the time when they are younger only being around people that look like them. Frazier says diversity in literature exposed kids to different types of people in a safe place where they can ask questions and learns (Hawkins). Diversity in children's literature can introduce young children to cultural differences and even similarities. Grasping these concepts at a young age can give children to look around and notice their surroundings and the people and things around them.
