In China, women must deal with an abundant amount of torment imposed upon thembecause of their culture. In the Woman Warrior Memoirs Of A Girlhood Among Ghosts, Maxine H. Kingston presents the stories of many women who faced these hardships , and what they wentthrough. By creating strong, courageous female characters in her novel, Kingston was able to explore the many difficult issues that Chinese women dealt with. As an example of one of the hardships that women endured in the story of a young girl who makes a moral mistake and becomes pregnant. We could hear the animals scream their deaths-the roosters, thepigs, a last great roar from the ox… They ripped up her clothes and shoes and broke her combs, grinding them underfoot… breaking our bowls and banging the pots.
