In the Yellow Wallpaper women are looked at as someone who is less superior to men. Men are primarily the more dominant figure. Men are expected to work while the women stays at home. Women are downgraded by men with how they are talked to and the positions they are put into. “So I take phosphates or phosphites — whichever it is, and tonics, and journeys, and air, and exercise, and am absolutely forbidden to “work” until I am well again” (Gilman par. 8). The narrator expresses how she is basically given everything by her husband she doesn't even know how to do anything for herself.
