Women In Medieval Times

The medieval time period incorporates a long span of years when there were a lot of

elaborate churches, castles, and other distinct building were built. However, this time period was

tremendously hard on the lower class people, those with no property and little money. The lower

class people had to work extremely hard. They work outrageously long hours to earn a terrible

small wage, if they received a wage at all. For some, they worked to have a place to live and be

feed instead of receiving a wage.

Those people in the lower class had horrid living conditions. They had little to no room.

Most of them had just one bedroom housing. With little to no luxuries. They harvested or traded

She was able to venture outside of her house. She was able to

become a blacksmith and run her own blacksmith shop, fixing armor, making horse shoes, and

build armor. A women had to be exceptional and gifted to work outside of their husband’s

home.

Women from the upper class were still mistreated at times and talked down to. They

were not respected either. When William and Jocelyn were in the chapel talking about their

love towards one another. A priest walked up to them and told Jocelyn to be quiet. The priest

did not even look towards William even though he was talking just as loud in the chapel as

Jocelyn was. Jocelyn was talked down to like she was a child getting into trouble. She was just

one of many women who were disrespected.

To live in the medieval time period was challenging compared to today’s times. To be in

the lower class was especially difficult, even for children whose parents love them. Families

barely scraped out a living, some having to separate to just survive. Women were not treated as

equals and were not respected as of today’s women. Today’s women have advanced some much

since the medieval time. The medieval time was very dark for the weak lower
