Should women really be defined by their body image and beauty? According to Sant magazine “The Fashion industry is no stranger to stereotypes, urging women that being super thin, without an ounce of body fat or curves, is the way to be sexy.” Contemporary society seems to believe that women are supposed to look a certain way. Today, Victoria Secret’s lingerie is the top performer in the conglomerate world of fashion. Numerous Victoria Secret ads can be found on both their site, and searching Google, that try to communicate having “The perfect body” as a campaign to promote their brands. In our society, the images of perfect shaped women displayed in ads and magazine are an attempt to strongly encourage and pressure women to have a perfect body. In both images, the women are look glamorously and slender with ideal proportions. The woman in ZU advertisement shows her slim body, long legs, by standing tall with her shoulder back to draw attention to the shape of her body. The woman purposefully poses with her right foot forward and her left arm around her waist to show off her slender body. The men in the image are obviously swooning over her. This can be inferred by the way the last man is looking at her longingly, that he desires her based on her body posture. According to color maters, the bright- blue background, embraced as the color of authority, clearly shows the credence that the fashionable woman has toward her figure. Although the bodies of the women are displayed differently, their purpose is the same. In both ads, the Amazonian women are only wearing two articles of clothing. The woman in ZU advertisement, wears a tight, form fitting, high wasted platinum shorts with a matching blouse to give her high- fashion look. The close-fitting blouse gives the woman a fabulous style and hugs the curves of her figure. By the woman wearing sliver high heels, and the angle at which the picture is taken, they give the perception of elongated legs and beautifies her body. This suggests that those clothing lines are appropriate for women who have the same figures. In the Victoria Secret ad, the fabulous women are wearing beautiful lingerie. The perfect shape burgundy bras give modern look and style to some of the women. Similarly, the perfect fit gray wireless bras give the two gorgeous women dynamic support and high fashion look. The woman in cross back blue bra poses differently from the rest of the women so that the viewers could see the fashionable, perfect comfort bra in its classic style. This implies that the comforter fits bra is ideally for these kinds of women. These two images send a message that, for women to look stylish, they should dress in clothing that emphasizes their shape.
