Women's rights is another hot potato for America and other countries these days, but this has been a big issue throughout history especially during the Victorian era. Victorian era was the period of Queen Victoria’s reign in the United Kingdom during the 1900’s. Victorian era was a golden age for the United Kingdom because they had strong naval superiority and worldwide leadership in manufacturing. In this age, United Kingdom had many colonies. Almost forty percent of the Earth’s land was Queen Victoria’s colonies. First of all, many people agree that Victorian era was a golden age for England, but it wasn’t so for most of the women. This is because the women's roles during the Victorian era was one of the worst. Back in the Victorian era, women were not able to obtain a job without their husbands’ permission. Therefore, women’s job was housekeeping from day to night throughout their lives. "Few women stayed in bed past daybreak, even when they were sick. They ran the house, made the clothes, cared for the sick" (Victoriaspast). During Victorian era, most of the women had run their house even when they sick. Almost ninety percent of women were married, and their job was to take care of the house, children, and also care for the sick if it's necessary.
