It all started in the mid-1800s because women were not receiving the rights they deserved, men were being treated better then women because of the law. So some women decided to hold the first Women’s Rights Convention which was held on July nineteenth and twentieth in 1848, which was the start for Women's suffrage. First there was the National Union of Womens Suffrage Societies (NUWSS) but a few years later a few women broke away from that group to form the Women's Social & Political Union (WSPU). Both groups wanted equal rights for women but the way they conducted themselves were completely different.
