The USA women’s national soccer team has many different formations which they play the game in. In the 2015 FIFA women’s world cup the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) were first playing a 4,4,2 (4 defenders, 4 midfielders, and 2 forwards.) This formation wasn’t letting Lauren Holiday, Carli Lloyd and Morgan Brian play all together all at once on the field. Then when Jill Ellis, the girls coach, changed the formation she switched to a 4,2,3,1. This formation let those players play together with Lloyd and Brian play together as center midfielders, and then Holiday playing right in front of them. US women’s soccer didn't actually start till the late 1970’s. in 1972 women's soccer began because of the Educational Amendments of 1972. This Amendment gave equal rights and spending funds for athletics at colleges. In the early 1980’s varsity college teams started to spread. There were almost 100 varsity programs in 1981. Then in 1985 the women’s national team formed. In 1987 the national team started to take off because they gained 5 star players to lift them off the ground. (Biefield, Hamm, Lily, Foudy and Hamilton.) Then later in 1995 the Women’s national league launched. Which meant more competition and more teams. …show more content…

For example Mia Hamm is considered one of the best players of all times. When Mia Hamm first joined the team she was 15! She was really young she had to show her competitors and her team mates that even though she is young she is tough. When Mia was on the USWNT she played forward. Mia used to hold the record for international goals scored until 2013. In 2000 and 2001 Mia had received 2 FIFA player of the year awards.Then sadly on May 14, 2004 Mia had retired. is still with the women’s national team and will always be one of the best players of all
