For this assignment, I chose the book, Wonder written by author R.J. Palacio. Before picking it up in the school's library, the librarian had told me that it had themes of bullying as well as gradual metamorphosis. Now, these relatable motifs had hit home for me due to similar situations I've gone through. Also, the main character is going to a middle school for the first time, which I could instantaneously connect with. Afterwards, I agreed to read this for the term project.
In the beginning, it states that our central protagonist, August Pullman, has a facial deformity that causes him to have low self-esteem. Despite his feelings of similarity with other children on the inside, his facial structure weirds others out. Later in the book, his mother had told him he was going to head to Beecher Prep because he needed to learn more than she could teach him. Indeed, this creates anxiety for him considering he's been home-schooled all his life plus his unique physique has him assume that others will harass him. When he first goes to the school, he is introduced to the school's director, Mr. Tushman including some students named Jack, Julian, and Charlotte. After a while, he also builds a friendship with a girl named Summer as she sits at the lunch table with him frequently.

Where both his friend, Jack along with Julian hurt his feelings by stating they'd rather die than have his face without knowing he heard them.
