Occurring in 1914 until 1918 the First World War was a conflict between the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente, later involving the United States. There were many factors that caused high tensions between countries in Europe, which led to a war. The United States involved itself in Europe's war because the circumstances were too large to avoid it.
Woodrow Wilson wrote the Fourteen Points speech in order to promote peace and justice. Most of these points dealt with issues regarding territorial integrity and causes of the war. If the Versailles Treaty had been less harsh towards the German people, whom were left unhappy, then Hitler and the Nazi party might not have rose to power. However, it wouldn't have changed much because Hitler was determined to kill the Jews and invade Eastern Europe. If the U.S. had joined the League of Nations it would have made World War II much worse on them because an alliance could have been drawn in quicker. If two nations in the League of Nations did go to war with each other, the U.S. would be forced to choose a side. In addition, joining the League of Nations would not have stopped World War II because the U.S. would not have been an active member in stopping aggression such as that of Japan invading Manchuria, where those conflicts were too distant for U.S. to worry about. Additionally, the League of Nations would control the United States's foreign affairs. The goal of the League of Nations is to help foreign countries, therefore the U.S. would always be out helping other nations. These actions would have cost our money, resources, and men. Consistently helping out other countries would cause the United States to run out of resources and energy. The United States would probably not be the world power it is
