Additionally, many members join weekly in small group gatherings in homes for times of prayer and accountability. Fellowship times following Sunday morning services are frequent occurrence. Several yearly events define the congregation, including a Thanksgiving meal, Christmas family communion, and a teen fundraiser pie auction. As Ammerman notes, “Through the process frame you look at social dynamics, from the subtle norms of community assumptions to the legal structure that encourage order and challenge injustice.” Beginning with the formal leadership processes, a great deal can be learned about the congregation. Lansing Woodview structures its formal leadership processes according to the Church of the Nazarene Manual. The senior pastor reports to the church board who is elected from the membership of the congregation. The three staff pastors and the church secretary are authorized by the church board, but report directly to the senior pastor. Yearly elections are held in May of each year to elect members to positions on the board and to represent the congregation at the yearly district
