Labor was the mechanism through which many people resisted their status as slaves, pivoted into lives of freedom, and earned their means to survive. Although enslaved people eventually obtained freedom, many continued into free life working jobs with which they had become familiar during their time in bondage. However, for many former slaves, labor could only be found through working available tasks under poor conditions. For men and women, these tasks were widely separate, with men often providing labor as public manual laborers, and women restricted to more private, domestic affairs. Therefore, occupations of freed people were often a continuation of similar duties performed while enslaved.

Another poor factor of this laboring system was the lack of education. Since children spent all day in factories and little time at home, schooling was out of the question.
The families were first altered because of the pay the man of the house was receiving. The low pay made it very hard to be able to afford a house and put food on the table. Mothers and children had to go to work just to pay for simple necessities. Most female workers performed unskilled or semi-skilled machine work but some worked in industries that demanded heavy labor. Some women, for instance, worked on railroads, while others were employed as machinists.
Many were completing tasks that equivalent the men’s task at the time such as wood chopping or hard work in mills and fields. This significant work difference in types of tasks displays the divide between the physical jobs they had to deal with. One had family household duties to please their husbands. The other had to work in order to earn a wage and a living for themselves in strenuous jobs. The women groups had treatment differences.
This is why women were believed to be unequal to men. Outside sources say that women were mostly free to do what they wanted until they got married. Unmarried women and widows were allowed to get jobs that didn’t need degrees in. Most women were expected to get married at younger ages. Those who didn’t get married went to work on farms or in people’s houses.
Victorian Era Entertainment The Victorian Era lasted for 64 years while Queen Victoria reigned. Entertainment was a huge part of this time because they did not have the modern technology we have today to keep them amused. The Victorians had many forms of entertainment such as sports, different pastimes, toys, and many various hobbies. There are many different eras throughout the years, but the victorian era is by far the most interesting.
The men during this time were paid significantly higher than women were. While men were paid higher than women, factory owners thought it was beneficial to hire women because they were unaware of what “good pay” was. Even if some women were strong enough for the job, all women were often excluded from it. Men were the dominant figure which meant they could all of the jobs
The Victorian Era was the history of the United Kingdom during Queen Victoria’s reign from 1837 to 1901. The Victorian society was broken up into four different classes, Gentry, Upper Class, Middle Class, and Working Class. Depending on what class you were a part of determined the type of diversion you got to participate in. Of course, the higher classes were involved in a wider range of activities. The lower classes activities were limited and not as diverse.
The only job that women were allowed to do was to help their husbands in their farms. But that all had changed when the United States went into wars and men had to go fight for the country. Women began to occupy a few jobs like working in munition factories or becoming the angels of mercy and working as nurses to relieve the soldiers’ pain. That was the starting point for women to begin demanding to work like men. Although occupied few jobs for very low pay, women were still not considered a part of the work force and they did not have any formal workplace rights and usually faced discrimination and unfair treatment from the other gender.
Victorian Era The Victorian Era lasted about 63 years, ranging from the 18th to the 19th century. Full of dance, literature, art, and music. Granted some of those things did not flourish as well as others, but are still just as great when it comes to the entertainment factor of the Victorian era. MUSIC, Most music in the Victorian era was found in music halls or saloons, meaning, that music was one of the things that did not take off as well as art or literature.
They would take on feminine jobs like cooking, caring for the children, and making sure that their husband is satisfied. The lowest part of the hierarchy consists of children, in which the boys were superior to the girls. Boys, when they were younger, would spend time with their mothers, staying in their huts and listed to stories
