Workshop Meeting Reflection

Samuel Seium. My location site was the Bridges to Independence that provides housing and services to homeless families in Arlington, Virginia. Our assignment for the workshop was to provide information to their clients on job retention in an interactive environment. When I arrived at the workshop, I was nervous because I was not an expert at teaching job retention. However, my nervousness went away when the Bridges to Independence members started walking into the room and taking their seats and it was time to begin. The attending members started the workshop by being frustrated because they had to wake up early. However, as our workshop went on with the interactive activities where the group was allowed to talk in small groups and share their own personal experiences, they were engaged and excited. My overall, experiences were amazing because I felt that I was helping them share their own personal stories. The workshop had three attendees cry, I know that is not the measure of success but it showed me how powerful our workshop was to the attendees. I believe the issues I had during the workshop was that the supervisor said all the attendees would be employed. However, half the of the attendees were unemployed. I would …show more content…

I was able to learn how to organize and run a workshop and that gives me good experience in the future. I have never worked with homeless families before and this was a great learning experience because I would be able to better understand how to work with homeless families in the future. During this workshop, I had the ability to use all the counseling skills that I have learned in the program with real people and it was great to see myself be successful with the attendees. After this program, I was leaning on working with individuals with mental health and substance abuse disorders but now I will also consider homeless families moving
