Question One- How did the Army apply lessons learned from previous conflicts to what was the current situation as it planned and executed a rapid expansion in preparation for its entry into World War I? In an effort to mitigate the mistakes made in previous conflicts, the Army had a plethora of crucial decisions to make as they rapidly geared up for the entrance into World War I. Applying lessons learned in the past to the current way the military needed to function in the upcoming war was not only critical to the outcome of that specific war, but to the livelihood and future of the world.

This issue was not only with colors of uniforms and/or styles, but also the rank structure that was created was crucial for the war that was about to ensue in Europe. After creating a standard uniform and a standard for the rankings of the men, no matter what division of the Army that you ran into, the superior ranking person was made obvious without discussion. Along the same lines as the rank structure, in almost all of the early stages of mobilization into war, the Army has noticed the need for more Soldiers and when more Soldiers are added, a large quantity of promotions are also coming shortly after that. The quantity of promotions does not mean that these promotions will always have the needed quality and this is an issued that the Army has slowly learned since its beginning and attempted to apply in the ramp of WWI. As stated, the quality of these Soldiers that were rapidly promoted may not be to the level needed which shows that rapid promotions can lead to inept leaders in charge. To continue the line issues noticed with leaders, in the Revolutionary War the Army had a large problem with having inexperienced and ill trained sergeants and officers, so to correct this
