The causes of the Great War (WWI) were the alliance systems, colonial conflicts, the crisis in the Balkans, and the ability for mass mobilization. Before the Great War started many countries were already developed and others were starting to develop, we had countries with strong economic powers and others that were emerging.
The Harsh Punishments of World War I World War I, also known as the great war started after the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, this was the main agitator that started the great war, the assassination was followed by the domino effect. Over 30 nations were involved in World War I and there were two main sides of the war, Great Britain, France, The United States, Russia, and Italy (The Allied Powers) who fought against Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire ( The Central Powers). After the war nations agreed for this to never happen again. The Treaty of Versailles was created but helped cause WWII by treating Germany harshly, reducing their army, and by taking away their territory.
There were two major events that took place that sent the United States into WWI. Before these events took place, America wanted to stay neutral with thoughts and action. On May 7, 1915, a German submarine, called U-boats, torpedoed and sank a British passenger liner Lusitania. About 1,198 lives were lost including 128 Americans. Many Americans were shocked and anger about this act and called it “mass murder and piracy”(671).
Source three is a World War I Australian propaganda poster created by the Australian State Parliamentary Recruiting Committee in 1917, focussing on the recruitment of soldiers, specifically sportsmen to volunteer to join the war as a method to replenish the front lines of the war in Europe. An associated message of the source questioned the validity and legitimacy of healthy, Australian men participating in sports while the other soldiers fought at the front in Europe. What happened: Prior to his election of Prime Minister, the British were hesitant and looking for compromises to avoid Nazi ruling while keeping the British safe. Instead, Churchill belives the complete opposite. According to his philosophies, such an unjust force must be put to an end by waging war against Germany. To him, the lives and toil necessary are irrelevant as there is no other alternative.

In this paper, I am going to discuss, the role of Andrew Jackson, how prisoners were dealt with in this war, the Battle of Baltimore, and the Treaty of Ghent. The Treaty of Ghent is the treaty that ended the War of 1812. There was the Allied Powers and Central Powers that battled each other to obtain mainly security of Government, security of the of land and most of all for the security of the World. The Archduke of Austria Hungary, Francis Ferdinand was assassinated by a Serbian terrorist group in 1914. This was deemed one of the main purposes that WWI started but in reality, it was beyond that.
When World War 1 first initiated in Europe in 1914 with the European nations battling against each other, President Woodrow Wilson declared that the United States would remain neutral. However, after German U-boats began attacking and sinking American and other neutral countries vessels carrying innocent passengers and supplies, President Wilson urged Congress in his address to declare war. Wilson expressed that his decision was not based on revenge or demonstration of strength since “property can be paid for while lives of innocent people cannot be,” but President Wilson wanted to vindicate human rights and bring democracy and peace to the world that was under autocratic authority (Doc. 1). Upon first viewing, one will notice how this poem about World War 1 by William Butler Yeates, goes much deeper and requires a much closer analysis to appreciate its full depth. For starters we can see that this poem is not a sonnet, at least not in the strict definition of using fourteen lines. Yeates instead chooses to use sixteen lines in one stanza to get his point across. This will be the first feature to grab the eye’s attention. Along with that observation, we will notice how the rhyming structure is constant throughout (this is important and gives a deeper meaning than just “sounding good”).
