World War I Was one of the bloodiest wars ever. World War I was a war fought in Europe between Germany, Russia, France, Great Britain, and the United States and many others. World War I was ultimately started with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary. The indirect causes were more significant to the outbreak of WWI than any direct cause. There are several causes that forced Europe into the “Great War” such as militarism, alliance systems, imperialism, and militarism.
War broke out in 1914 due to forces that had been building up in Europe for years. While the Allies blamed Germany for the war too harshly, its actions certainly did directly contribute to World War I, as did those of Austria Hungary. However, each country involved fostered militarism in their country, and became in entrenched in the web of alliances and race for imperial power, all causes of the environment that led to the Great War. Therefore, it could be said that all European countries were responsible, in part, for World War I, as reflected in Documents 5, 6, and 7.
BPQ#1- In the first half of the twentieth century, the disasters that befell Europe were related to the increased competition between the European states. These divisions have been a “long-standing feature of European political life” (982). This widespread competition lead to the rival alliances, which were “the Triple Alliance of Germany, Italy, and the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Triple Entente of Russia, France, and Britain” (983). These alliances, in conjunction with increasing nationalism, lead to the start of the First World War. The Great Depression also had a large impact on Europe, as this economic crisis increased instability within all social classes.
World War One and World War Two were both conflicts which involved Germany, due to the clashes among opposing alliances of empires. Repeating rifles and machine guns were used extensively in World War One and its modern version were used in World War Two creating a more deadly impact. Also, the use of planes played a minor role in World War, but became the prevailing force within World War Two. Although there were similarities, there were major differences in warfare; in World War One soldiers fought from lines of trenches and were supported by artillery, machine guns, infantry assault, early aeroplanes, tanks and poisonous gas. All of these methods were mostly stationary in nature with minimal mobility, World War Two on the other hand was
World War I was known as the Great War because it was fought all over the world by different nations with high numbers and warfare tactics. World War I was also known as the “war to end all wars” because of the different warfare strategies like trench warfare, poison gas, airplanes, tanks, etc. These warfare tactics were violent and had great slaughter and destruction of countries and alliances. This was also known as the Great War because of the scale of the war, which was 900 miles of trenches on the Western Front. The main causes of WW1 were militarism, secret alliance, imperialism and nationalism One of the main causes of the Great War was militarism, militarism is the desire a country has to keep a strong military and the building up of
World War I: The United States Break From Neutrality At the beginning of World War I, the United States wanted to maintain neutrality. That was largely due to George Washington's previous orders that the United States would maintain an isolationist point of view. Immigrants were one of the largest supporters of maintaining neutrality, especially the Germans and Irish. For the German-Americans, it was a matter of not wanting to fight against their ancestral home.
The era following the Second World War was marked by a dramatic change in the world order as countries across Africa, Asia, and Central America underwent independence movements that completely upended their political systems. The war had left the world in shambles and the widespread beliefs in Social Darwinism and the concept of a ‘superior race’ that were originally used to justify European rule in foreign areas were challenged. The political climate also changed over the span of World War 2, especially in the weakening of the imperial power’s rule as well as the newfound sense of nationalism that had been sparked in dozens of countries. People wanted change to happen in their country and supported leaders and organizations that pursued independence
Hitler was the main aggressor during 1939 who everyone appeased to, who is infamously known for his rise to power, his persecution of Jews, and his attacks on the world to dominate, that killed so many. Neville Chamberlain, the British Prime Minister, believed in the policy of appeasement and appeased Hitler at the Munich Conference which eventually lead to the start of World War II. The Western Powers responded to aggression with appeasement, and in 1939 the world was plunged into World War II, proving to the world that collective security is a better response to aggression. Hitler’s aggression was the main reason why Allied powers felt the need to appease. In 1930, after the Reichstag fire, Adolf Hitler rose to power because he was appointed
“In Britain and Europe, no event, is less forgotten than World War 1, or ‘The Great War,’ as it was called until 1939” stated by Michael Korda. World War 1 or also known as ‘The Great War’, was an worldwide conflict from 1914 to 1918. A big cause for the war was imperialism. The war was fought between the Central powers ( Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey) and the Allied cause (France, Great Britain, and later U.S.) U.S. remained neutral and sold goods to both sides until 1917, U.S. then later declared war on Germany for many reasons. The contributions from U.S. to the Allied Cause helped turn the course of the war.
There were many reasons for aggression and atrocity of totalitarian regimes which set the stage for the involvement of America in World War II. The great depression, the stock market crash, the deep sense of betrayals, Japans invasion of China, Nanjing massacre, among many other events all lead up to World War II. All the buildup aggression can only lead to disaster and that is exactly what it lead to. Though many believe that it was the war that got us out of the great depression, it still contained a lot of negative long-lasting effects that might still be seen today. In 1931 Imperial Japan seized Manchuria and four years later they withdrew from the league of nations.
The Korean War was inescapable, and we would have had to fight them in the future no matter what the circumstances. There is no question about it, some people agreed with the fight and some didn’t. So, being asked the question, “What did the American public think about the war by late 1952-1953?” I come up with many different answers. Further, what influenced their opinions to be as they are?
One man, Vladimir Lenin saw that Russia was spiraling downwards, having lost two battles in a row and having the highest death count out of all the European countries he saw that a change was needed. Lenin was the leader of the Bolsheviks who were a communist group that wanted to draw out of the war and over thrown Czar Nicholas II. Preaching peace, and food he wanted, ¨the offer of peace, the salvation of Petrograd, salvation from famine, and the transfer of land to the peasants who depended on them,¨ (Document 8). People were drawn into this and, ¨increasingly taken in by the propagandists of the united Socialist Party and their internationalis ideas,¨ (Document 9). This combined with high death rates, starvation, communist ideals started the overthrow of Russia and the end of the war.
Origins of World War II After the conclusion of World War I, many nations were devastated financially. The economic effects and shockwaves stemming from the destruction left many nations suffering from massive debt and poverty. As a result of the widespread poverty, many nations began adapting to a militarized style of government and became very aggressive in solving the economic woes. Germany and Italy would develop mass military forces during the beginning of political militarization. Furthermore, Japan would take aggressive action to control land and resources in China due to them becoming a militarized imperial machine.
World War2 was a global scale war. Allied Powers, such as Soviet Union, United States, United Kingdom, France, and Axis powers such as Germany, Italy, and Japan fought against each other;, more than 50 countries joined. This war was started in 1939 and ended in 1945. China entered World War 2 to defend against Japan. China also joined this war.
Another cause of World War II was the Japan militarism and invasions in China in the 1930s. Additionally, another cause of World War II was that Great Depression left the world in a turmoil. The government was unstable, people were out of work, and trying to survive this terrible period in United States history. World War two had many causes as it was fought by the 2 Axis Powers (Germany, Italy, Japan), and the Allied Powers( Britain, United States, Soviet Union, France) , and considered the most traumatic war in human
