WWII Study Abroad Mohammed once said “Don’t tell me how educated you are, tell me how much you traveled.” Travel is more than just a journey to another place in the world; it’s an opportunity to visit and understand the places you would normally only learn about in a textbook. The experience of visiting abroad is unlike any other experience, and is something a textbook is unable to emulate. Travel is the most valuable form of obtaining knowledge, the past becomes present and what was old is seen as new. On a journey, historic sites come alive and foreign cultures become a second nature. I chose the World War II study abroad program because it offers a chance to study one of the most significant periods of the 20th century. The location and subject are both interests of mine, which made this opportunity so appealing. France has always been a country in which I’ve wanted to explore, and WWII is one of the most interesting periods that impacted the entire world. The presence of genocide, dictatorship, and Anti-Semitism separated this war from all the rest. WWII influenced some of the greatest social changes that America had experienced including the civil rights movement, the modern women’s rights movement, and even the exploration into outer space.
