Spanning from 1914 to 1918, a major battle, known as the First World War was fought due to disruptions occurring in Austria surrounding the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand in June 1914. Following the First World War, unpredictability of the political and economic systems of Germany led to a Second World War that lasted from 1939 to 1945. Both wars were fought and won by strategic military alliances between different countries (Diffen). Although these wars were fought at different times and in different places, nevertheless there were some similarities between the two like how they both ended in a lot of death and destruction. One common factor in both wars was also how they both resulted in Germany being left in ruins (Diffen). One major difference between these battles was the time when they took place. World War 1 started in 1914, lasting for 4 years while World War 2 started in 1939, lasting for 6 years. Some methods of warfare during World War 1 were fighting from lines of trenches and supported by artillery and machine guns, infantry assault, tanks, early airplanes and poison gas, while mobility was minimal. Some methods of warfare in World War 2 were nuclear powers, missiles, submarines and tanks, encryption codes, and the blitzkrieg fighting method eventually having a big impact on the war. The nature of World War 1 was among countries acquiring colonies, territory, or resources, whereas the nature of World War 2 was a war of ideologies, such as fascism and communism.
