The World’s Longest Serving Death Row Inmate After 48 and 30 years respectively, Iwao Hakamada and Glenn Ford, two of the world’s longest serving death row inmates were released from death row and exonerated of murder. Hakamada and Ford are the only two men to serve over 30 years on death row. Furthermore, Hakamada is the only one in the world who has served more than 48 years. Glenn Ford is the only one in America to serve more than 30 years on death row. In both cases improper collection of evidence and torture for confession caused Hakamada and Ford to plead guilty. Forcing someone to confess to a crime they didn’t commit can cause someone to be sentenced to death row.
