My thematic paper will be on wrath, more so the wrath of God. In this paper, I will define wrath, compare old vs. new testament, and give my personally thoughts on the matter. In addition, I will show the fear and love that god represents.
Wrath is defined as,” a strong vengeful anger or indignation; retributory punishment for an offense or a crime: divine chastisement” (definition of wrath, 2016). Where per J.I. Packer, writer of “Knowing God”, states that, “Throughout the Old Testament, we also see God dealing with Israel the same way a loving father deals with a child. When they willfully sinned against Him and began to worship idols, God would punish them. Yet, each time He would deliver them once they had repented of their idolatry” (Packer, 1993).

While reading the bible, I found verses that will support both definitions. In the old testament, the best example of Gods wrath, is how God dealt with Israelites and Egypt. From my understanding, God sent Moses to free the people of Israel from there captures. God protected them through their journey and tried to teach them lessons on their way to the promise land. God show his mercy to the Pharaoh and his people by sending them warnings via Moses. Pharaoh challenge the warnings of God. Then God unleashes his wraith upon Egypt. This all come be found in the book of Exodus. Thus, the people of Israel were freed. ( NKJV Study Bible, 1997,
