The Wright brothers, Wilbur and Orville Wright, made many accomplishments. The brothers were not the first people to build a first winged aircraft, a kite on a stick, was flown centuries before Orville and Wilbur’s first flight. But the Wright brothers were the first one to design and build a flying craft that can be controlled in the air. “Every successful aircraft ever built since, beginning with the 1902 Wright glider, has had controls to roll the wings right or left, pitch the nose up or down, and yaw the nose from side to side. These three controls – roll, pitch, and yaw – let a pilot navigate an airplane in all three dimensions, making it possible to fly from place to place” (wright-brothers.org). In France, Wilbur found a much open-minded audience. He did many public flights and also gave flights to officials, journalists, and some people that are in a high class. “The flight shows went well until Orville lost a propeller and crashed, breaking his leg and killing his passenger, Lt. Thomas Selfridge” (wright-brothers.org). Wilbur was not having the same problem. Wilbur broke record after record of his flights. Finally, Orville and his sister, Kate, joined Wilbur in France, then the three went home. Wilbur and Orville returned to Fort Myers with a new Military Flyer and also complete all of the U.S. Army trials. A few months after that, Wilbur flew over a million spectators in New York Harbor and became very famous. The Wright brothers’ fame grew and there were more people ordering the air crafts. The Wrights built airplane factories and flight schools. But there was also a problem, one they demonstrated their aircraft in the public, many copied. They want to earn more money, but most of the money made was from the exhibition flying, where audiences want to see an entertaining flight
