“We were lucky enough to grow up in an environment where there was always much encouragement to children to pursue intellectual interests; to investigate whatever aroused curiosity” (Orville Wright). The Wrights Brothers; Wilbur born in 1867 and Orville born in 1871, they invented the first airplane that is controlled by man. They were inspired in 1878, when their father gave them a toy helicopter that had a rubber band connected to make it fly. Before they were experimenting with planes they owned a bike shop in 1892 until 1896, they always thought about experimenting with planes, but didn’t really know how to start, in the shop in the back they would write in their journals about their theories and wrote letters to their parents. The brothers aren’t the first to come up with the idea to fly an air-craft, but they changed the world by just reading books and experimenting with contraptions that looked ridiculous. “Brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright did not invent flight, but they became the Internet of their era with their invention of the Flyer, which was the first manned, powered, heavier-than-air and (to some degree) controlled flight aircraft, bringing people and ideas together like never before” (Whipps). Even though they didn’t invent the idea of flying a craft in the air, but they were the first to invent the craft that was powered by man. As soon as the Wright brothers invented the plane, it changed the way of thinking. The contraptions they used were odd, but before they were dealing with the concept of the plane and dealing how to build it, they practiced with kites. They inspired people to create bigger things that don’t seem to be possible. Now in society, people are able to see the world in hours and not days. “With the dawn of commercial air service, the world opened up in in a new way, allowing people to visit places they’d only read about in books” (Whipps). With traveling, being more efficient, people can travel without a problem, well except for the prices of the tickets, but people don’t have to take a crowded train that takes two to three days to go across the country. Now when people travel across the country, it would only take 24 hours or less. For example, if a person lives in Arizona and want to go to Kansas, take a plane and that person can be there in two to three hours, otherwise if you take a train it will take 24 hours.
