Sharks are dying fast! About 139 are killed each minute! Luckily, a few organizations, like Ocearch, are tagging sharks to learn more about these awfully astounding creatures. Sharks actually do have massive benefits to the ocean and our lives. Not many people know about Mako sharks, but they’re very interesting creatures. To begin with, Mako sharks have a dark blue/grey sleek body, while their stomach area is white. Their beady black eyes may make people demonetize the incredible sharks. Secondly, due to Mako sharks being the fastest shark in the world (they are able to go 20mph in quick bursts), many big game fishermen like to try to catch them. Fishermen collect their fins, teeth, jaws, and much more. Another fact is that they eat many things they can find. Smaller sharks, dolphins, seabirds, turtles, and …show more content…
First, 100 million sharks are killed each year, mostly because of finning. Shark finning is when people cut off the shark’s dorsal fins, then usually throw their carcass back in the water. Not many people know that sharks actually help clean up the ocean. Sharks-World states,” Sharks help to ‘clean up’ our oceans because many shark species consume carrion and dead plants, so they reduce the marine debris,” (Sharks-World). Without sharks the ocean would be way more dirtier than it is now. Also, sharks are a huge part of the ocean’s food chain. If these creature go extinct it’s possible many other animals will overpopulate the ocean, and some more animals could go extinct with the shark. Luckily, some organizations are helping the sharks. For example, fishing companies are changing their hook and line designs, so sharks can escape from fishermen more easily. In addition, the U.S. has banned shark finning since 2000, and California has also banned near shor grillnets. To sum it up, sharks are dying, and people are finally starting to help
