What do you like the most about being a Cal student?
There's an indescribable sort of energy in the community that I really don't think I would be able to anywhere else. Just last week, I walked towards the library to start studying, and a small hip-hop concert was going on at People's Park. Hundreds of happy people of all races and ages - babies and their parents, high school kids, college students who needed a study break, etc - eating and dancing and hanging out together was a little bit like a scene out of a movie. It was so perfect, almost utopian - just walking through that area made me so happy and lifted my spirits for the rest of the day.

As an Indian student pursuing Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Major, it has been extremely difficult for me to find a group of people that I can relate to and share my experiences with. From the Indian community, many EECS students are extremely accomplished and doing exceptionally well at Berkeley. Because of this I constantly feel pressured to compete with these students and feel extremely discourages when I am unable to meet such expectations. Although, I very much appreciate being surrounded by brilliant peers I really feel that I lack a support system and a community that I can call my own. Furthermore, because of the academic rigor it is extremely had to focus on anything but school. Both of my parents do not have a concrete work schedule and because of this sometimes I have to Bart home and stay with my 70-year-old grandfather and help take care of him. Due to the amount of workload and academic rigor of my courses it is extremely challenging for me to devote my time to school and my parents look after my grandfather. Being a first generation college student, I really feel that I lack an academic and emotional support system to guide me through my journey at
