Although Duke University is an extremely competitive school to get into, it is completely possible to get in with a bit of hard work and perseverance on the student’s account. When I began searching for colleges, Duke was the ideal university to attend; a gorgeous campus, a small population, an interesting list of majors and minors, and a great reputation for being an intelligent and sophisticated school. However, one thing is holding me back from attending the college of my dreams: the daunting sum of money needed to attend. Standing at an intimidating $45,376 for only one year of studies, Duke is the most expensive college in my native state of North Carolina. However, many companies take advantage of this, inflating the prices of tuition, medical supplies, and food and water. Money may be what makes the world go round, but America has planted its seed in a bad orchard, and has sprouted an evil tree which is rotting the nation down to its core. We have built a reliance on money to take care of us, but much of the nation does not have the necessary funds to go to college and get the supplies which secure their health.
