The disease that I have been investigating about and want to write about in my final essay is type 2 diabetes. To begin with, let’s try to understand, in general, what the type 2 diabetes is? “Diabetes mellitus (type 2) (formerly noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus) is a metabolic disorder that is characterized by hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) in the context of insulin resistance and relative lack of insulin.” [1] In simpler words, insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas that allows your body to use sugar (glucose). As you know, blood glucose is the main type of sugar found in our blood and our main source of energy. Glucose comes from the food we eat and is also made in our liver and muscles. Blood carries glucose to all of our body’s cells to use for energy. So, diabetes is a problem with our organism that causes blood glucose level to rise higher than normal. This is also called hyperglycemia. T2D is the most common form of diabetes. It comprises 90% of people with diabetes around the world. Parents, instead of showing the right way of choosing the food products that would be much healthier for us, without awareness, are inculcating the habit into their children’s brain that eating this kind of food is normal. Todays, parents do not explain to their child the harmfulness of this kind of food, but, moreover, usually they don’t totally realize this by themselves. They don’t understand the effects of this unhealthy food on their and their children’s organism.
