The overall theme of Abuela Invents the Zero by Judith Ortiz Cofer is to always treat others with respect. If you don’t show respect towards others, you won’t have respect for yourself. In the story, Connie is very disrespectful towards her grandmother. In the text it states, “I try to walk far behind them in public so that no one will think we’re together,” (Cofer 4). This quote shows how Connie is embarrassed to be seen with her grandmother, and has little respect for her grandmother’s feelings.

This argumentative essay is about mary surratt & mary was a normal housewife with a few friends. John wilkes booth was a friend of mary’s & he was set on a mission to kill the president of the united states because he was a confederate & the united states won the battle against the confederates so that made booth furious & enraged. I don’t think Mary should have been hanged for her crimes of helping booth with hiding some guns and binoculars in a tavern because she only thought that she was helping a friend with a few errands. Even though mary 's name wasn 't on the letter she still got tried for her crimes. Mary surratt should have been truthful when the cops came to her house & maybe then she might have gotten off a little easier than
Vera Claythorne is a murder for killing a young boy named Cyril. She killed Cyril because he would inherit all of the family money, and not her boyfriend, Hugo. Hugo was too poor to support a family, so he and Vera couldn’t get married. Vera’s family will probably be affected by this because she was an innocent woman until she killed this poor little boy. Claythorne’s family will never be trusted with kids for generations after generations.

Maria W. Stewart was one of the most prominent African American feminist and abolitionist during the 19th century. She used her voice and writing to advocate for the rights of her communities during a period when she was barely considered human. Her most famous speech in 1832, “Why Sit Ye Here and Die” was a shocking and powerful speech that urged African Americans to fight against oppression. Despite the challenges she faced, Stewart became an influential figure in the fight for racial and gender equality in the United States and was a trailblazer, paving the way for future feminist and Black activists for years to come. Maria Stewart was born in 1803 in Hartford, Connecticut to one of the few free Black families at the time, though their

“On Excellence” 1. Through out Cynthia Ozick’s essay, “On Excellence,” she uses the words lavish and confined to define excellence as well as phrases like ripe generosity and condemned by my own nature. Ozick uses stories of certain things her mother did when she was growing up to explain how excellence is defined in each of their perspectives. For example, according to Ozick, she describes her mother as “endlessly leafy and flowering” (242) and herself as, “a pinched perfectionist” (242). Ozick points out that her mother and her type of excellence are completely different but each is still considered a type of excellence. She understands that her mother’s life was lived to the fullest and that it had its own form of excellence which was not paying so much attention to the small things, like her type of excellence, but to pay attention to the main thought.
