Why should I be labeled? Why can't we walk into a room without having to be judged based on appearance or our background. We are human being and that's the only label we should be entitled to. We are unique individuals who have different characteristics that defines who we are. A label should not determine what traits a person has or how someone is expected to present themselves. I get labeled by society as soon as I step through a door, because I am a female. What does it mean to be a female? People usually describe females as a stay at home mother, who cooks, cleans, and care for her husband and children. A female is a human being who has different features from a male, but can do the same things a male can do. I had basketball practice about two times before our first game, and we went over lay-ups briefly. When we got on the court we looked like a team of middle school girls playing against college women. At the beginning of the game I looked in the bleachers and saw so many people who came out to see us play. But when halftime came I looked at the scoreboard we had zero points. Then I peeked back to the bleachers I seen that People started disappearing. By the end of the basketball season we had improved as a team. We attempted to do layups, we even made a few 3 pointer shoots. Even though we progressed in our skills, we still didn't have as many supporters as the boys basketball team had. Throughout practiced I have learned a lot about basketball and what techniques were used in playing the sport. Even though it was a learning experience I became a better basketball player. Many people had doubted me because I was a female. I was told “you're a girl, you can't play play basketball” As a team I knew we weren't the best, but we had potential.
