Frederick Douglass was a self-educated escaped slave and abolitionist. One of his many accomplishments was The Life of Frederick Douglass. He wrote this book to show what his life was like as a slave and what he did with his life after he escaped. One of his many writing techniques in this narrative is his magnification of certain events (or details) of his life. Douglass starts by talking about his heritage which includes his mother, father, and grandparents on his mother’s side. Douglass goes further into detail by talking about his father. Douglass’ father was a white man - who likely could have been his slave master. While Douglass tells us of this, we see more through his eyes with the detail he uses about his master.
