The book,” The Outsiders”, is about a group of teens fighting for their rights in society. The main character, Ponyboy, is very book-smart but not street-smart, with no common sense. This leads him to make the wrong decisions, causing unfixable problems at times. Three main events that are perfect examples of Pony not using his head are; Pony running away after Darry slapped him, Ponyboy and Johnny running away after a Soc died, and finally, Ponyboy fighting in the rumble although he was sick. One central example of Ponyboy's deficient level of common sense is when Darry slaps him. The greasers were fighting for Johnny’s sake and their pride. Some greasers were there out of anger or enjoyment, while others were there for revenge. The Socs have always been looked upon as being the better, higher-class people, whereas the greasers are looked upon as being low-class. Even with society not in the Greasers' hands, they still come out on top after the rumble is complete. When the fight is over, Ponyboy wants to inform Johnny of all the success they have achieved from the rumble. Nonetheless, on the way there they encountered the fuzz, who kindly escorted them to the hospital after a white lie about Pony’s hurtful appearance. While there, Johnny sadly died leaving the reader on the edge of their seat by ending the chapter with, “Stay gold Pony. stay gold. In conclusion, Ponyboy made serious poor decisions, and because of that, a lot of people got hurt or died.
