I have never had any interested in art at all, until I know about Yasuo, Kuniyoshi. Yasuo and I have a bit in common that we are both immigrants. My family moved from Vietnam to the United States from ten years ago. Rising up in a slum and never had enough foods to eat or a shelter place to sleep at night. On top of that, I have this anxious condition where I don’t want to talk to anyone because of my accent and the kids were laughing at me which leads me to developed major depression and anxiety, because I wasn’t able to interact with others and I also feel like the kids were looking down on me because of my accent. Every night when I get home from work the computer is my best friend.
Yasuo, Kuniyoshi was born September 1, 1893, Okayama, Okayama Prefecture, Japan At first, Yasuo Kuniyoshi had no plan of becoming an artist when he came to the United States from his native Japan in 1906 at the age of sixteen years old. He was also denied in citizenship and he was classified as an “enemy alien” One of his high school teachers in Los Angeles discovered that he’s gifted in art. Of course, it took people a long time before people actually realizing how good Yasuo, Kuniyoshi art works are. Another thing that could possibly set him back was that he was status of immigrant and racism was still on going back in the days. The first being a pregnant woman with a cigarette, I was very surprise that how could an artist made a panting about a pregnant in a bather with a cigarette. It was definitely something I never have seen before. The use of dull colors make the picture really stands out.
