In the 19th century, nations around the world struggled to protect nature’s untouched areas. The idea of setting aside land to protect it seemed absurd in the early 19th century. Slowly the idea of securing areas became familiar to the government. By 1872, The creation of Yellowstone as a national park with protections was necessary in order to protect nature from commercial use and to preserve the land for the enjoyment of the people.
In the mid eighteen-hundreds there was disagreements and conflict over land use and setting aside areas for human enjoyment. Before Yellowstone was actually established there had been no feat of preservation, especially because cities weren’t willing to set areas apart for a National Park.

As people settled into the areas around Niagara they started to build, and use the flowing water as a resource. As people flocked to Niagara Falls demands for supplies and construction increased.
