The Exercise to Enlightenment
To a lay audience yoga can best be described as a myriad of poses performed in a modern exercise style. When exercise is described the thought of physical exertion and sore muscles will appear in most minds. In this sense, most will not consider the mind a muscle. Yoga is more than poses and physical exertion. Yoga is the practice which strives for unity. These practices revitalize our mind, body and spirit. In doing so the benefits are lifechanging.

In the article, “Correlation of The Yoga Techniques Practiced With Locus of Control and Anger Management Style,” Janjusevic explains the research experiment. In this study there were 3 groups of individuals tested, long term yoga instructors, students attending the International Yoga Academy and recreational yogis (those who attend a class) (69). The goal of this experiment was to see that if the length of practicing yoga can influence your behavior more dominantly than those who practice once a week or for a few years. The results were that yoga helps with the levels of which people experience anger and the levels at which one would express anger. The duration of time in which an individual had practiced had a huge impact on their results (67). Individuals who practiced yogic techniques such as breathing, meditation, relaxation, poses, show a greater ability at controlling anger as well as the majority of our other emotions and the way we choose to express them. They were extremely well at controlling impulses too
