Ono's performances and instructional artworks in the 1960s changed forever the relationship between artist and audience. Her partnership with John Lennon is worth remembering through their imagining of a better world. Lennon's famous song "Imagine" was a reprise of Yoko's instructional pieces. Ono's innovative presence in the art world extended beyond this partnership. She stretched the dialogue on materialism and cultural consumerism, which inspired Rirkrit Tiravanija, Suzanne Lacy, and artists in social activism. Ono called attention to the openness and pliability of the female body. She pushed female artists like Valie Export, Hannah Wilke and Marina Abramovic to take greater risks.
Ono were married pop star, John Lennon on March 20, 1969. He was a Beatles star at the time. Fans hoped the Beatles would stay together. They blamed Yoko Ono, who was always with Lennon, for his disinterest in the band. Lennon already planned to move on. Ono and Lennon celebrated their relationship publicly.

Ono and Lennon released the album Double Fantasy in 1980. The melodic album was warmly received. It featured seven arrangements by Ono and seven by Lennon. After the album release, Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman, a psychotic “fan” outside his apartment in New York. Ono and their son Sean neither avoided international attention surrounding the killing. In 1981, Ono released an album, Season of Glass, which showed the blood-stained broken pair of eyeglasses Lennon was wearing when he was killed. Ono wanted the whole world to see the glasses with blood to realize that John had been
