She was living on Riverside Drive in Manhattan's Hamilton Heights neighborhood with her 17-year-old son Jesus, her sister, and her niece. She was paid $18-an-hour, as a nanny by Kevin Krim a former a digital content executive at the television network CNBC and Marina Krim who was a former kindergarten teacher. Lucia and Leo Krim the children of Marina and Kevin were both brutally stabbed and murdered by Yoselyn Ortega. The article from the Washington Post, posted on April 19th of 2018 briefly explains the verdict of the Nanny Murder trial. Within the Article, it is explained that Kevin Krim, the father of the two children was seen battered in grief due to the hard past 5 years, since the killing of his two children, Leo and Lucia. Yoselyn Ortega, who pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder for stabbing the children in the Krims Upper West Side apartment in 2012. Ortega’s lawyer argued that she was “following the devils' orders to kill the children and herself.”. According to the juror, it was a very hard decision because they wanted to give every party a fair opportunity even though the facts were clear since the beginning of the trial. Marina Krim, the mother of the children had not returned to court since she testified in early March. According to the prosecution, Ortega had a rocky relationship with her employers. She was having financial troubles due to her son moving from the Dominican Republic and enrolling him in a private school. Prosecutors say Ortega’s attack was provoked by her anger for being asked to work too hard and was overwhelmed by her financial situation. The Krims offered Ortega more hours to increase her pay but the malice Ortega felt towards her employers only grew stronger. Ortega’s attorney’s attempted to explain that the murder was a product of severe mental illness. According to the state and the Krims, Ortega never exposed or displayed any form of mental disorder. They believe the crime was out of pure spite and jealousy. A prosecutor told the jury that “Every stab, every slash — each one had a purpose and that purpose was to end the lives of those children.”.
