‘’you’re not aboriginal your white’’

‘’Are you even black? You’re not Aboriginal you have white skin.’’ These are the types of comments I hear regularly. Some people make racial comments without even realising it. Racism is a massive part of Australia, its everywhere. It’s on social media, on the news and even in sports. Taiah ardley, March 14.
We live in such a beautiful country, it’s a shame something as ugly as racism exists within it. Just think how much better life would be without racism. I think a lot of people take living in a country where we have a freedom of speech, or the fact that we live in a war- free place. My Grammy explained to me that it was the hardest thing trying to find her family. She finds it so disgusting when she hears people saying ‘’who cares about it, it happened a long time ago’’. How could one possibly get over something like this? In 2008 Kevin Rudd delivered his apology speech to everyone in Australia. It’s funny how we’ve had no speeches like that before then. I also didn’t see the point in that speech, yes we got an apology but what was it really for? People are still racist and still nobody does anything about it. From an indigenous perspective it’s a very painful day. It’s the day colonisation began. Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people have been fighting to change the date of Australia day for a long time. The radio station triple j changed their date of the hottest 100 to the 27 from the 26 to protest to change the date of Australia day. For most people Australia also known as invasion day has a very big effect on their lives and also their ancestor’s lives. Indigenous people believe that we should come to an agreement to change the
