The Tlatilco female figurine (1200-900 B.C.E.) is a ceramic sculpture created in Central Mexico at the site of Tlatilco. The 9.5 cm tall sculpture depicts a woman with two faces exhibiting an intricate hairstyle, a slim waist, and large thighs. The sculptor of the Tlatilco female figurine is unknown, but one can conclude that the artist was from the people of the Tlatilco culture. The people of the Tlatilco culture lived in the Valley of Mexico, where they created many small clay figures, but sculpted them by hand rather than using a mold. The figurine is currently residing at the Princeton University Art Museum.
The portrait was painted on wood panel and in gothic like form. Nonetheless, this masterpiece is representation of time, the complexity of the painting and the
In both “The Dinner Party” by Judy Chicago and “The Vietnam Veterans Memorial” by Maya Lin, there are some striking similarities in composition. These similarities can be noticed through the layout and subject matter of each piece. However, there are still contrasting ideas on how the artists views differentiate through personal feelings. “The Dinner Party” is a larger than life sculpture that is arranged on tables with a total of thirty-nine place settings, each commemorating an important woman from history. The names of another 999 women are inscribed in gold on the white tile floor below the table.

BreadGivers storyline is full of different types of relationships. There are familial relationships between Reb and the females in his immediate family, Reb and his son-in-law’s, and the daughters and their husbands. These relationships express one of the main themes of the novel, which is oppression. The men in the Jewish religion are viewed as the “bread-winners”, even though this is not true. They are given priority over women in most matters, and are the ones that dictate every situation.
The Orlando Museum of Art, also known as OMA, is a hub of Central Florida when it comes to pulling in remarkable works of art for the public eye to pay patronage to. Today I visited such a place for the annual Antiques Vintage and Garden Show, which took place between February 19th through the 21st. Included in the price of a ticket was also admission to The OMA’s current exhibitions, which included Women of Vision: National Geographic Photographers and their other running exhibits, which contained an array of work, ranging from Pre-Columbian sculptures to more contemporary works of the 21st century. The specific exhibit which held my interest most was the Pre-Columbian, Mesoamerican gallery titled “A Trek from North to South”, which was organized by geographic locations in Latin America. Since my girlfriend, Illiana, bought me tickets to the show for a
The physical qualities of Diego Rivera’s “Two Women and a Child” feature an oil on canvas medium. In this painting, Rivera utilizes the fresco technique which according to “A Beginners Guide to the Humanities” is a painting on a surface of plastered wall or ceiling, usually applied when the plaster is wet. Using the fresco technique allows any work of art to have a durable consistency and matte finish. The shapes of the figures have curvilinear lines to accentuate the curves and swirls of their bodies.
“Love you, mama, Miss you”(Aviv, 2), the words of three year old Adam to his mother who was placed with the Orange County Social Services. In Rachel Aviv’s article “ Where is your mother” thirty-nine year old, single working parent Niveen Ismail, “begged” them to return her son after she left Adam unsupervised at home whilst she was out. Niveen mentions that on this tragic day that, “It was mechanical- I wasn’t thinking anymore... I was just trying to survive” (Aviv, 6) she was overworked, undernourished and had just reached a “breaking point”.
The love of a child can be one of the core motivators for a parent, and the deep desire that a parent has for their child to succeed, can often trump any kind of sense of morality that a person may have. This deep kind of love begs the question of how much love is too much, and if that love is threatened, what extreme consequences may occur. Old Woman Magoun, in Mary E. Wilkins Freeman’s Old Woman Magoun, puts her love for her granddaughter above her her sense of morality, and in the same way, Pau Lin in Sui Sin Far’s The Wisdom of the New, shows the desperation that parents can have. Parents and even guardians need to be careful of selfish love, and of how much this love can cater to their own needs and desires. Old Woman Magoun is a desperate, fearful, overprotective woman that clings to her granddaughter, as if she is her own.
Her daughter tenderly embraces her mother, we are able to see her dependency but also her love. This is how Lebrun wants to be seen, as an honorable mother. All the details of this painting, from it’s composition to the reference it makes to the Madonna and Child, put Lebrun in a flattering scene during a
Artwork is a form of self-expression from an artist based on life experience, or on something that the artist feels strongly about (Berenson, 87). The product of art can help others with similar experiences but not able to express the same feeling themselves. From the product of art, people can start drawing excitement, purpose as well as encouragement about the real thing being expressed. Through a piece of art, the artist can communicate a purpose, an emotion or an idea in their work. In this research paper, I compare two pieces of artwork; Madonna and child with the saints by Giovanni Bellini and Madonna and child with the two angels done by Fra Filippo Lippi.
This piece is important because it is exceptional compared to well-known artists. It has an philosophical interpretation that can relate to viewers’ lives. It is visually unusual compared to other art because it does not have a specific subject, and the crypticness is fascinating because it has viewers thinking deeply about its meaning as they begin to understand the visuals. It is a substantial piece of art because if one is having a difficult time in life, one can glance at The Deep and feel a sense of comfort of not feeling
