Concerts are music performances done to a live audience. The audience may be a small one, or a large one, depending on the kind of concert it is, and the kind of music that is played in the concert. In this case, the concert in question is the Young People's Concerts under the musical direction of Leonard Bernstein. The concert is a combination of pieces done by Holst named The Planets, which include Mars and Venus among others. The performance in the Young People’s Concert is done to a group of young learners at the New York Philharmonic, in New York. This paper reviews the concert, providing a description of the program, analysis of the purpose of the program and how it was organised. The concert was done in a way that the musical director, Leonard Bernstein, explains what piece is going to be done, why it was done by the original composer and the instruments that are used in each section (Buia). For instance, Mars, which Leonard Bernstein describes as musical entertainment, is performed using other tools, which include the flute and the organ among others. The concert is done in 1972 when the music enthusiast put their focus on orchestra and such similar performances (Buia). The pieces done by the composer, Gustav Holts, are about the solar system and uses the mystics of the planets to describe his composition (Buia). Holst was not concerned about astronomy, but rather, astrology, writing his piece based on a characteristic of a planet, explaining why he did not include planet earth in his compositions (Buia).
