May 13, 1940 was the day Chung Woong was born in Icheon, Korea. If you’re wondering if it was North or South Korea, back then, it was just Korea. He had only one sister who was substantially older than him. When Chung Woong turned 10 years old, the Korean War had started. They were three years full of fear, misery, and frustration. During the war, Chung Woong’s family had to escape their home, however, his older sister was already married, so she was living in a different place. They had to escape without any information on her. He was very worried about her and will be worried for many years to come. Chung Woong went all the way to Yesan-gun, South Korea. When he was 14, his dad passed away from his old age. His dad was one of his biggest inspirations, so this was a very hard time period of his life. Living with just his mom, every morning, he would go up the mountains to gather wood and mulch; and every night, he would have to study for school.
