Zaroff's Survival In 'The Most Dangerous Game'

Do you think there is a difference between being selfish and trying to survive? All survivors have skills or attributes that helped them survive the situation they were put into. Survivors are put into situations that are not apart of everyday life. They must have/gain attributes that help them succeed in surviving. Successful survivors have many traits that helped them survive in their unique situation, but two traits that most survivors have are resourcefulness and the ability to do what was necessary. Survivors that are forced to work with limited resources during their situation would be forced to become more resourceful and more creative. Rainsford used the resources on the island to try and take over his opponent, Zaroff, with different ruses and deceit. As the hours went by, he became more resourceful and had more courage to try and win Zaroff’s “game.” Being resourceful can be used in many different ways. It could be like Rainsford in “The Most Dangerous Game” or it can be like Paul in “An Ordinary Man.” Resourcefulness can be used to save just one person or hundreds of people. In the story “An Ordinary Man,” Paul Rusesabagina talked about how his resources help him to help save over 1000 people from being killed during the genocide. He said, “I had a five-story building. I had a cooler full of drinks. I had a small stack of cash in the safe. And I had a working telephone and I had my tongue...I knew the architects of the genocide and had been friendly with them… Words...can also be powerful tools of life” (80, 83). Paul had resources that one would not think would beat a gun or any other type of weapon. He used his “friendships” in order to gain favors and borrow some more to help save all the people that were with him. Paul used his advantages
