In the poem called Works and Days, written by an ancient Greek poet Hesiod, a god named Prometheus gives mankind the gift of fire without the consent of Zeus. This infuriates Zeus, which results him to punish Prometheus by inflicting him with eternal pain. Not only did Zeus punish Prometheus, but he also penalized mankind. In Hesiod's poem, it mentions, "The price for the stolen fire will be a gift of evil to charm the hearts of all men as they hug their own doom" (45).
Origin Poseidon is more well known as the God of Sea. He is the descendant of Cronus and Rhea, and his siblings are Zeus, Hades, Hestia, Demeter, and Hera. Even though it is said that Cronus devoured his children, Poseidon was able to escape thanks to his mother Rhea. It’s believed that Rhea hid Poseidon in a flock of sheep and pretended to give birth to a colt, so Cronus wouldn’t devour him. However there’s another story that says Cronus did devour Poseidon and was confined in Cronus’ stomach until Zeus came saved Poseidon along with the rest of his other siblings.
The Romans adapted the Greek hero's iconography and myths for their literature and art under the name Hercules. In later Western art and literature and in popular culture, Hercules is more commonly used than Heracles as the name of the hero. Hercules was a multifaceted figure with contradictory characteristics, which enabled later artists and writers to pick and choose how to represent him.[1] This article provides an introduction to representations of Hercules in the later tradition.
The modern day equivalent to Zeus would be much different than it was back then. Today I would picture Zeus wearing only the nicest of clothes, for example Loui Vuitton or tuxedos. From Zeus’s time to now the way we make houses has changed so I would picture Zeus living in something a bit nicer, I expect Zeus to live on a giant Palace on the top of Mount Everest and made out of pure gold with tons and tons of pretty ladies roaming all throughout the house. Zeus back then was a ruthless ruler who was only nice to the ones who admired him, today id picture him being the leader of a mafia type clan, kind of like the league of assassins with only the best of fighters and go throughout the world trying to eliminate the bad and evil people. Now since
In Homer’s Odyssey, Zeus, in utter exasperation and discontent, condemns one of the grave follies of mortals—shedding blame on the gods for all their misfortunes. Continuing his expression of disdain, Zeus implies that humans beings only suffer calamity and sorrow because they are foolish and disregard the bad omens and prophecies which are given to them by the gods. Zeus, to support his argument, gives the example of Aegisthus, who was killed for committing crimes against his kinsmen after he was thoroughly forewarned by the gods to not plot such a thing. Certainly, Zeus, or even perhaps Homer, is wholly under the impression that humans are the cause of their own trials and tribulations because of their callous decisions. Indeed, this is a
People are not just given the name "hero"; that name is earned by doing something heroic in life. An example of an epic hero is Hercules. Hercules was once an immortal god. He was the last son of Zeus and became mortal. Hercules was known as the strongest mortal and is even stronger than some gods.
The qualities that make an epic hero are strength, courage a strong mentality, and the aspiration to achieve heroic acts. Analyzing A God The God Zeus is mostly known for his symbol, the lightning bolt, however, there is much more to Zeus’ background and history than a lightning bolt. For instance, where the symbol came from, the thunderbolt was made for him by ‘mythical creatures’, a Cyclope. Before even receiving the symbol and title of the lightning/thunder, sky, and God of all Gods, Zeus was only a rain God. Zeus was a major influence, and highly important to the Greeks because he was considered the most powerful God in Greek history. It was believed that when he was birthed, the world was created, giving him ultimate power.

A long time ago In ancient Greece, Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, and Ares were fighting about who should rule the world and Zeus was throwing a thunderbolt at hades but it missed and it hit a sheep and made it a fast moving with freckle spots all over the creatures’ bodies. The gods stop what they were doing and look at the animal. After a little bit, Poseidon said” it should be could Percy”. Preventing the death of a son and saving the life of a highly esteemed hero are choices that most would make, except for the King of Gods - Zeus. In the Iliad, Zeus does not wish to make those decisions, but is compelled to do so out of his sense of duty. Before being a father and warrior, Zeus was above all the leader of the gods. This means that as the head of the Olympians, Zeus has to be impartial in order to keep the peace of Olympus, which causes him great misery at times. Zeus’ duty as the greatest and most influential god stops him from taking sides in mortal affairs in the Iliad to maintain peace, which parallels the question of whether America’s status as the most powerful and influential country gives them the duty to interfere in
The Greeks are known for constructing tales of great heroes who accomplish what seems to be impossible feats. Two of the most well known of these heroes are the protagonist of Homer’s novel the Odyssey, Odysseus King of Ithaca and the mighty demigod hero Hercules son of Zeus. These two characters are like an orange and tangerine. That is due to both of them having a plethora of similarities as well as differences ranging from traits, to accomplishments, and history. What makes a hero isn't there powers, but rather the path they have chosen to guide their actions.
