Second thing about Prometheus is — he betrayed his people (Titans) by helping Zeus during the war ( Olympians VS. Titans). In the first few sentences, I wrote the Prometheus stole fire form Zeus right? Why? It’s because he loves his creations.
While the literary conception of Pandora changed Athenian depictions of her in ceramics and sculptures show little deviation from her previous existence as an earth-goddess. They adapted the changes by creating dualism within her depictions. Though the Athenians revered Pandora as the earth-goddess she once was with similarity to their own patron goddess Athena. They also acknowledged Hesiod’s philosophy of women being trouble and needing to controlled due to Pandora and her jar. Ironically a couple a of years after the Parthenon was completed, at the beginning of the Peloponnesian War in 431 B.C.E., Athens was struck by a devastating plague, one of the evils Pandora let loose upon the world.
As one version of the myth goes, Prometheus and his brother Epimetheus were punished for not fighting alongside the Titans and were sent down to earth and given the task of creating man and protecting him. Prometheus gifted man fire and allowed him to stand upright like the gods. In a food sacrificing ritual to the gods, Zeus was tricked by Prometheus, which angered him very much. As punishment, he took fire from man and returned it to the heavens. Prometheus, who loved man dearly, defiantly climbed back up to the heavens and stole fire to return it to man.
Pandora was created out of spite, and for the punishment of man. She was a clay figure, given life from Zeus, and was granted gifts from all the greatest gods and goddesses. The only cruel gift was a golden box, along with curiosity. The golden box was forbidden to ever be opened by Pandora. She was later married to Epimetheus, and they lived a beautiful life.
However, Pandora revolts: “‘But this is my dowry,’ murmured Pandora. ‘Zeus himself filled it with magic as a present for us…Look at the silver hinges and the great gold clasp that fastens it’’(Untermeyer 478). There are a couple of accounts of the story of Pandora and the Jar. There are many similarities between the different accounts and also between the story itself and others. Pandora and the Jar is a story written by the ancient Greek poet Hesiod. It tells the story of how Zeus punished the god Prometheus for deceiving him by sending a girl named Pandora who would release suffering into the world to plague the nations. Many centuries later the author Nathaniel Hawthorn wrote the novel A Wonder book for Boys and Girls which include the story The Paradise of Children.
Prometheus is one of he most enduring figures in greek mythology, he is the one and only titan who sided with Zeus against Zeus 's father Cronus, Cronus over threw his father Ouranos by defeating him and became the new ruler of the titans, and he ends up eating all of his children and and his wife Rhea could only save one and that one was Zeus, which he defeated and forced him to throw up all his siblings out and him and his siblings defeat the titans for control of the universe. Prometheus defies the gods by helping humans, and he is most notable for bringing fire from Olympus, and the skill of metal work. Zeus devises a cruel torture for him. Right now, where I am in the book, none of the characters have good characteristics. Zeus throws tantrums, the Fury seeks vegans, Prometheus is a thief and prison escapee, and Jim and Uncle Edward are also thieves and liars. But, if I had to pick something, I would say Prometheus’s desire to help the humans is a good characteristic to develop within myself. Lastly, he ordered Hermes to “put inside her an intent that is doglike and a temperament that is stealthy”, then after she was created to bring her to Epimetheus, Prometheus’ brother. Although Prometheus warned his brother not to accept pandora as a gift from the gods, he did anyway. Zeus then gave Pandora a jar that she was told not to open. Her curiosity got the better of her and opened the jay, evils escaped the jar, and despite Pandora trying to shut the jar again she failed. The last thing that was left in the jar was hope (Nagy).
Despite the warnings not to accept gifts from the gods, he married her. Pandora's curiosity grew stronger and stronger and she opened the jar releasing all the sorrows and misfortunes that have afflicted humanity ever since. By the time they had managed to close the jar, only
The myth begins when Prometheus decides to steal fire from heaven. Zeus being angry at him decided to have made a beautiful woman on earth to punish the men. Zeus, gave Pandora as a gift to Epimetheus, Prometheus' brother. Prometheus had told his brother to deny every gift that came from Zeus but the myth says, Pandora was too beautiful so, he let her stay at his house.
Comparing and contrasting the similarities between the Greek mythology of Pandora and the Biblical writings for Eve, is an enlightening topic. In Greek, the name Pandora means, “all gifts.” Hesiod had written, many literary works that included Pandora and her creation by Zeus. “Theogony” was one title work of Hesiod’s and the other was, “Works and Days.” Hesiod brings to light, in his writings that Pandora was created for the purpose to deceive man.
Pandora opened the box and released great evil upon the world and Epimetheus knew how much trouble he would be in with the gods and yet blamed himself. Epimetheus stated "Mine is the fault not thine. On me shall fall The vengeance of the Gods, for I betrayed their secret." (P. 2, #14-15). He said this
A lot of people in this world struggle in life, not just back then but currently today. Not just any people, the hispanics, chinese, russians, germans , etc. Those people wake up and hope that they can be with their families everyday. Yet they struggle with life obstacles that they have to overcome throughout their life because they play a big role in the the world too. They come into America sometimes not to start a life but to mess up others.
Hesiod’s Theogony was no longer able to satisfy the higher minds among the nation. Thus, inspiring Aeschylus to write tragic poets such as Prometheus’ Bound in order to express his own ideology and pointing the moral of tragedy. It is no surprise that Hesiod viewed Zeus as a glorified olympian hero and Prometheus as a traitor who stole fire and gave it to mankind. Aeschylus’s idea of Prometheus was conflicting to Hesiod, whereby he viewed Prometheus as a god supporting the civilization of mankind.
