William Zinsser is a writer who recently passed away. Before he passed away, he wrote an essay explaining how to write a memoir. He gives three wise words of advice, be yourself (2), speak freely (7), and tell your own story/tell your own story (11). In the memoir “knucklehead”, Jon Scieszka discusses many things he remembers from his childhood. Jon follows all of Zinsser’s advice. First off, the way Jon wrote his memoir isn’t the way you would usually write one. He writes the way he speaks, a good example of this is in the very first chapter, when he says “I’m the second oldest, and the nicest, and the smartest.” In that example, Jon doesn’t write incomplete sentences; instead he writes how he would talk.
