Zoologist and Wildlife Biologist Ever since I was young I have been interested in going into the field of zoology. Animals are very interesting to me so I want to pursue my passion of becoming a zoologist and wildlife biologist. I have acquired many different animals throughout my life including an African spur-thighed tortoise and even a fringed ornamental tarantula. I find learning about animals and how each one contributes to the environment very intriguing. With the Henry Doorly Zoo nearby becoming a zoologist will be very possible. You must be able to work well individually. Good written and oral skills are a must. To become a zoologist you must at least have a bachelors degree in zoology, ecology, or biology. The type of zoologist job you want to go into determines what degree you will need. Although, you would need a masters or even a PhD for becoming a researcher. Researchers perform experiments and identify information gathered through research. Researchers are very important they do a lot to help animals. They also breed animals and raise animals. Collecting animals is another job researchers do. They also dissect animals and preserve their bodies. Other zoologists jobs include wildlife rehabilitation. Rehabilitators care for ill or injured animals. They also release animals back into the wild. Wildlife educators are another job wildlife biologists do which entitles educators to present information in front of large groups of people. Zoologist need to be very good in math. They also must be good at speeches in front of many people. Also, zoologists have to be able to work with computers very well. Zoologist make $27.74 an hour. The median salary for a zoologist is around $50,330 per year. The lowest ten percent still makes on average $37,100 yearly. Where as the highest ten percent can make upwards of $95,430 yearly which are the people that have been working for 20 plus years. The salary varies depending on what degree you have. I don't care about the pay because I am passionate about becoming a zoologist. The employment outlook is very high also. It is projected to grow 5% in the next few years. Over 20,100 jobs open up for zoologist annually in the whole United States. There has been a huge demand for zoologist. The United States Fish and Wildlife Service is always looking for wildlife biologist. In Nebraska alone there are ten people hired yearly which is quite good. For schooling I would be going to Creighton University
