Zora Neale Hurston was born January 7, 1891 in Notasulga, Alabama. Her mother died when she was 9 years old and her father remarried soon after her mother’s death which resulted in her being passed from relative to relative and would work as their nanny or housekeeper. Zora attended Columbia University and was an anthropologist and novelist, she was also a leader in the Harlem Renaissance. Zora Neale Hurston wrote 4 novels and had many short stories published and was well known for her piece Their Eyes Were Watching God. Zora passed away on January 28, 1960 in Pierce, Florida due to a stroke because of her hypertensive heart disease.

Claude got his education from Tuskegee University and then left to Kansas State University because of the intense racism he encountered. In 1917 he published 2 poems in The Seven Arts under the pseudonym Eli Edwards and later he became a co-editor of The Liberator. He died at the age of 58 in May 22, 1948.

Langston Hughes was born on Febuary 1,1902 in Joplin, Missouri but after their parents separation he lived with his mother they moved to Cleveland, Ohio were he began writing poetry. His main infulences were Carl Sandburg and Whalt Whitman, he would also attempt to send his poetry to magazines but gets rejected. In 1925 his poem The Weary Blues won first prize and received a scholarship which then he would graduate. He published his first novel and noticed he can make a living out of writing poems.
