Dear Ms. Nelligan,

The religion that I have chosen was Zoroastrianism. Zoroastrianism is the world’s oldest religion. It was founded by the Prophet Zoroaster in ancient Iran. For thousands of years Zoroastrianism was one of the most powerful religions in the world and many people followed. Now, this is the world’s smallest religion. There are only has less than 190,000 followers according to the 2006 New York’s Times newspapers released May 2006. They believe in a God named “Ahura Mazd” which they believe is only God existing. Zoroastrianism says that “Ahura Mazd” is who created the world, life, environment and creatures. The followers of this religion are expected to pray several times a day and on daily basics. The Zoroastrianism calendar is splits into twelve months and each day of month is named after Ahura Mazda, an Amesha Spenta or a Yazata. An example of a feast would be “The six gahanbars” which is an Obligatory feast. This feast is held when the season changes from summer to fall by the famers. Another festival that the followers of Zoroastrianism celebrate would be “The birthday of Zoroaster”.
Some Rites & Rituals applies to Weddings and Funerals. There are two stages to weddings which are Parsi & Persian. In stage one, the bride and bridegroom will be signing a marriage contract. Then the parents from the bride side and the parents from the bridegroom side will both sign the marriage contract as witnesses. Finally, after the marriage contract is signed by both of the parents from both sides there is a party hosted to celebrate their 1st stage of their children’s marriage. In the second stage, is the service followed by feasts and the celebrations, which traditionally would last for 3 to 7 days. During this time, the female would have a fine scarf over her head. At the same time, there are two crystallized sugar cones that would be rubbed together in order for the couple to have a sweeten life together and to live long. Traditionally, the bride and the bridegroom would have to wear a white dress since “white” is a symbol of purity in Zoroastrianism
