I’m currently working on an essay and have included two of the three rhetorical appeals Logos and Ethos. The main appeal is Logos, because There is a lot of information and facts. Ethos also, because there is authority that will help back up the claims. My audience is not directed to any individual group it is intended for everyone.
Therefore, this weakness does not detract from his strong use of appeals, ethos, and his persuasive use of logos. Essentially, Sloan delivers an effective argument for his readers through his use of ethos and logos, aside from what might be considered weak pathos. For his audience of everyone, his use of ethos and logos are strong, since he is a highly educated, and a critical thinker that uses logos very effectively. He successfully executes his thoughtful thesis that patriotic slogans should not necessarily be taken at face value.
I know this because both point of views in my meme are arguing a specific point and have evidence behind it. Montag is saying that books are better than television, and he's giving facts being it saying they contain knowledge and future success. Society is saying that television is the best, they are using the fact that all of society watches TV to support their statement. Both point of views show signs of logos by having facts support their argument and red herring by arguing different
Finally, he appeals to logos in the first and last statements stating the fact that
From the genocides of different ethics, to freedom is taken away in minority nations. Angela Davis expresses her views on political aspects of hard punishment upon human beings Americas’ society. She composed many books supporting her idea on political activism. In chapter 9, “Freedom Is A Constant Struggle,” opens different viewpoints, as a results of a transition in today’s society, starting from the 1960’s to the age of Obama. In addition to the few minority groups, as she relates in this book, the similar of a constant struggle for freedom with in the different ethics groups.
Couple examples of logos was when Skloot’s mentions, “According to Howard Jones and other gynecologic oncologists I talked with, the correct diagnosis wouldn’t have changed the way Henrietta’s cancer was treated”(Skloot 172) and “In 1928 a German virologist named Harald zur Hausen discovered a new strain of a sexually transmitted virus called Human Papilloma Virus 18 (HPV-18).'' (Skloot 212) She uses reliable sources and discreetly informs the reader that she isn’t saying things out of thin air but instead she uses proper sources to validate her points in her novel. She uses logos by discussing scientific information and explanations, as well as the degree of Henrietta’s impact on
Women has greatly suffered in society from the beginning until now and no one seems to notice this prolonged issue that women have to endure in their daily lives. The media played a major role to how women are perceived in todays society. Nevertheless, in todays world more and more individuals are attempting to address the problem to solve this issue once and for all. Jennifer Newsom effectively convince her audience in an American documentary film: “Miss representation” to embellish the denigration of women in society and persuade the audience through the use of logos, pathos, and explicit visual images.
Reader’s Response Journal Entry 1: In chapter one, Virginia Woolf uses logos as a literary device to show the relationship between the food someone eats and what they are capable of doing: “The human frame being what it is, heart, body and brain all mixed together, and not contained in separate compartments as they will be no doubt in another million years, a good dinner is of great importance to good talk. One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” (Pg. 18)
The use of Logos, Pathos and Ethos in writings is a way to persuade the reader, it is away to help the writer have better communication with his audience, mainly in speeches, text, advertisement and many others. Logos appeals to reason based on logic, this involves statistics and facts to help the writer support their claim, which makes it more believable, and it shows the writer has knowledge of the claim they are making which makes the reader believe what the writer is saying is valid and also true. For example if I stated that Taylor Swift was more popular in 2015 than her best friend Selena Gomez was because she had more followers than her and now she is not I should have the statistic to show that so that my audience believe it’s true.
Here, Chavez presents that violence is not effective in the long run. Additionally, he adds that “people suffer from violence”. By stating that violence can be temporarily successful until another form replaces it, Chavez counters the idea that violence solves the issue once and for all. Consequently, his readers will ask themselves, why do we use violence if it is not long lasting success? By getting his reader to ask and answer this question, he is able to make them draw the conclusion that violence is not the superlative
Swift makes extensive use of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos within the first eight paragraphs to create a strong initial argument that captures the audience’s attention and provide assurance that the information presented is viable. Swift starts with an appeal to Pathos by describing the state of Ireland: “the Streets, the Roads, and Cabin-Doors, crowded with Beggars of the female Sex, followed by three, four, or six Children, all in Rags, and importuning every Passenger for an Alms” (Swift, 1). The description of Ireland leaves a gloomy effect on the audience, as they are met with a somber tone set forth by a description on how thousands of people are affected by the poverty in Ireland. Swift continues this appeal to Pathos by describing the state of families within this poverty: “this prodigious number of Children, in the Arms, or on the Backs, or at the heels of their Mothers, and frequently of their Fathers, is in the present deplorable state of the Kingdom, a very great additional grievance” (Swift, 2). This description of the melancholy state of Ireland creates an emotional appeal because, the thought of having mass amounts of children being forced to cling to their Mothers and Fathers in a desperate struggle for survival, is a morose image.
Squatty Potty Is it hard for you to poop? Squatty Potty has helped thousands fix that problem. This Squatty Potty advertisement convinces its audience to buy the Squatty Potty by using ethos, pathos, and logos. The Squatty Potty is a prop for your feet when you poop out feces. Having the prop will help your number two come out easier.
These two events both show human rights taken away from a certain group. Furthermore, it shows the denial of human right starts from one unfair acts and develops over time into a large-scale

Logos is the appeal to the audience’s logic or thinking of constructing a well-reasoned argument. It includes: facts, research, and statistics. For instance, "And what have we to oppose to them? Shall we try argument? Have we anything new to offer on the subject?
